Those were the final text messages and phone calls made by the “Fallen 44,” Special Action Force commandos from the Philippine National Police who were killed by elements of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (M.I.L.F.) and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (B.I.F.F.) in a botched operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last January 25.The SAF had conducted a covert operation to capture or kill wanted militants Zulkifli bin Hir alias Marwan and Abdul Basit Usman.Marwan is believed to have been killed by the commandos.Describing the messages as the closest thing to a black box (the recording device in airplanes), Senator Ralph Recto has encouraged the spouses, the relatives and the friends whom the commandos were in contact with during their last moments to share their information.
